not+verb+again

I've seen "ne plus" translated as "not again" in the sentences below in my French grammar book.

Vous ne serez jamais plus obligé de garder des copies papier. (You'll never again have to keep hard copies)

Je n'y retournerai plus. (I won't go there again)

"Ne plus" commonly means "no longer" which, to me, is a different nuance so this doesn't make sense. Ofcourse the "Re+verb" construction is commonly used to translate "not+verb+ again".

Elle ne l'a jamais revu (She never saw her again)

So two questions

1) Is "ne plus" really a correct way of saying "not+verb+ again"?

2) If so, how does one decide between it and the "re+verb" construction, or is the latter the one that should be used all the time?

(Just one more question. Is this forum still active? I guess I'll find out soon enough but the last question posted here was by me and that was a year ago!)

No I don't think this forum is active any more (unless someone pops in again )

You can also say ,commonly "Je n'en veux plus"

(also "non plus" ="je ne sais(pas) non plus" as "I don't know either")

I wouldn't worry about what is "correct" so long as it makes sense and is commonly used.

Yes ,a pity.There used to be a lot of students asking to be helped (way back now) but either they go elsewhere or they can get most of the answers with online translators,language apps or some such.

Je ne peux pas vous dire quelle est la bonne syntaxe en anglais mais je peux vous expliquer le contexte de ces phrases.

Je n'y retournerai plus :

Je n'avais jamais remarqué la forme "re" = verbe. On dit "Je n'y retournerai plus" à la suite d'une expérience négative en général, un peu comme une expression.

Vous achetez votre pain au même endroit depuis 3 ans. Et un jour, vous vous rendez compte que le boulanger vous a volé et vous n'avez pas pu vous défendre. Vous dites "Je n'y retournerai plus"

Vous allez en vacances dans un pays étranger et soit parce que vous avez été déçu, soit parce que c'est loin, vous ne pourrez plus jamais faire ce voyage. vous dites "je n 'y retournerai plus".

Avant quand on achetait une tv, on devait garder la facture et la rapporter si la tv était en panne, pour que le magasin ait la preuve qu'on l'avait cheté chez eux. Maintenant vous pouvez avoir vos factures dans votre espace client sur le web, vous pouvez les retrouver dans 1 an ou dans 2 ans. Si vous achetez une tv, et qu'il y a un problème, vous n'avez plus qu'à aller sur l'espace client et vous retrouvez votre facture.
