Rupture et casser

Hi
Marc told me the French word 'rupture' could be used to say the termination or fasting. This has to do with Ramadan.

When there is a strike, is it correct to use 'rupture une une grève' instead of 'casser une grève'? I mean the calling off a strike.

Casser un mariage means the annul of marriage.
Would you write 'rupture un mariage'?

Hello Crack,

We won't use the word "rupture" (or rather the verb, "rompre") about a strike. When talking about a strike, we'd say "mettre fin à une grève" (if it has already begun) or "annuler un ordre de grève" (if it was planned but hasn't begun yet).

Now, about a marriage, yes, "rompre" can be used:

rompre un mariage.

However, it's usually about a religious marriage.

For a civil one, I guess we'd rather say "divorcer" :)
