I believe "commutateur" is used for a light switch.  When is "interrupteur" used for "switch?"  thank you.

*Technically* speaking:

An interrupteur is a simple "on-off" switch.

A commutateur is a "logical" switch, selecting between different circuits/paths in a circuit.

So technically, most light switches are probably "interrupteurs". It wouldn't surprise me to find that in informal non-technical use the two are often confused.
