Au-delà de la confiance, qui fait de plus en plus défaut, sa marge de manœuvre est de plus en plus étroite.08/08/2011 - La lettre d'info du Figaro

[I do not seem to be able to paste the phrase in question here, only in the 'Discussion Title' line. So Apols.]

Could anyone be so kind as to translate the 'qui fait de plus en plus defaut'?

Thnks!

Literaly, you can say "which is more and more failing"
'quit fait de plus en plu défaut' = which is increasingly lacking
Thnks Mimi and Erwan!

Possibly 'which is increasingly failing' ?   (Figaro was referring to Obama's administration.)
