You can use it as the slang word "broke" (I'm broke = have no money). It also is used with reference to money meaning "steep" but there is the word "cher" in parentheses. Do you say that something is "raide" meaning "expensive" or do you only use it as "that was a big increase (in price)"

"Je suis raide" = I have no money
and "l'addition est raide" = too expensive for me = it's difficult for me to pay.
