[help] writing a sentence...

Hi,

I was wondering if this sentence would work...

L'intrigue repose sur la question d'où il faut se fixer des limites entre ...

I was trying to say that the plot thickens on the question of whether setting limits between....

and from there I'd continue. But I'm just unsure as what I have 'd'ou il faut" just looks strange and sounds strange and clunky itself...

It sounded OK to me but I can't find many similar uses of "la question d'ou or" la question de quand" etc followed by a phrase with a verb.

So , unless someone else tells you otherwise why not break it up into ,say "L'intrigue repose sur cette question. Où faut- (or faudrait-il) etc. etc. ?

My preference (in any language ) is for short sentences.

Maybe "L'intrigue repose sur la question de savoir si fixer des limites entre..."?

Could you give us the rest of the sentence or some context to see how it works out?

I've also been struggling with the parts aftewards. But the gist of it is, I was trying to make a statement about the extremities between over-parenting your child and demanding too much responsability and self accountability on their part- from this I was asking the question of where one should draw the line between the two...

L'intrigue repose sur cette question d'où faudrait-il se fixer des limites, comme les parents, entre d'être trop actif dans ses rôles où d'etre trop exigeant, en demandant leur enfant de prendre leur propre decision de leur part.

...it just sounds... a little too clunky and wrong...I hope I have become a bit clearer on my intentions with this sentencce.

L'intrigue repose sur la question de savoir là où il faudrait,comme parents, fixer les limites .

Est-ce qu'on intervient trop dans son rôle ou alors exige-t-on trop en demandant à son enfant de faire ses propres decisions?

Just been thinking: if it's not part of a novel or something like that, "l'intrigue" probably shoudn't be used. With that in mind, I'd go with something like:

"La question est de savoir où fixer la limite entre couver son enfant et être trop exigeant avec lui [en tant que parent(s)]."
