Tour de France aujourd'hui à La Grande Motte..... -_-" autrement dit, on ne peut pas bouger, pas se déplacer en voiture, rien faire. Tout est bouclé..

Is anyone else following the tour? This phrase is from a blog I follow. I guess it is a pain if you live on the race route. I didn't know "boucle" was used to mean"blocked" I thought it meant "curls".

Hi,

"boucle" means curl. "bouclé" means blocked. ;) And the verb "boucler" means "to block".
But it's an informal way of saying blocked, and we only use it only when it comes to roads.
La route est bouclée. means that the police blocked the road.
La route est bloquée. could mean that the police blocked the road, but could also mean that a fallen tree is blocking it. La route est bloquée par un arbre. makes sense, but La route est bouclée par un arbre. doesn't ;)
Thank you Marc!!! It is interesting, your language! Pam
