Broyer les os -  does it means grind the bones

Par ailleurs les techniques varient -  (please explain)

Mais oui, il a été peitit un jour -  ( don't understand this phrase )

1 - "broyer les os" means to crush/grind the bones. I don't think of any further signification

2 - This phrase means that the way to do something (I suppose "broyer les os") can be different depending probably on where and who do the thing

3 - when you say in french "il a été petit" or "quand j'étais petit", "petit" means actually "young", of childhood age. "when I was younger, I wanted to be a fireman" is translated by "quand j'étais petit, je voulais être pompier"

Par ailleurs usually means On the other hand, but it is sometimes better rendered as Besides.
