Demonstrative pronouns

How do you explain how to use demonstrative pronouns to high school students studying French.

Group them as best as possible. I remember this being confusing too! Be sure to write out every possible case and organize them first with gender, then number, then the -ci and -la. Please don't teach the English translation with the French word. This causes even more confusion as they really don't mean the same thing. I hope this helps a little. Good luck!
