I have read the following phrase in the original text of Simone de Beauvoirs novel "Les belles images"

 

...Mettre les rondes de carottes sur le filet de hareng....

 

Est-ce que quelqu'un qui peut le traduire.Je ne peux pas le trouver nulle parte.

Place the carrot slices on the herring fillet.

It's not unusual to find an infinitive where a 2nd person plural would be preferred. Mettez would be equally appropriate here.
Infinitives can be used as a replacement for the imperative tense.
But I've mostly only seen it in things like instruction booklets.
