Translation Help

Could anyone tell me what is the best translation of "memorial" (war) in French?

Is it simply <monument> or is it necessary to add something such as <aux morts>?

it depends what you mean by "memorial"... do you mean like le memorial de Caen or simply un monument aux morts? You can say both: if it's like a museum it will be un memorial and if it's simply a statue with names of dead soldiers and things like that it will be un monument aux morts.

Possibly the most general term for "memorial" (in the sense of a statue etc) is monument commémoratif.
