Just received an email from my friend starting;
J'ai ete tres occupe avec ma fille avant.
What does it mean "avant" here? Thanks

It means that she was busy, but she is not anymore. He could only have written : "J'ai été très occupé avec ma fille".
--> I've been very busy.
