[+dishes] faire tremper, laisser tremper

please clarify when to use what.  Tx

You have a lot of dirty plates and casseroles, and you don't wash them just after the dinner, they are very dirty and the next day, it's dry.

you put all the dishes in the kitchen sink in a lot of water : vous faites tremper et vous laissez tremper.

it's used for other objects, like cloths, socks, and every things are very dirty and dry and it's very hard to clean with just a sponge and soap : faire tremper, laisser tremper.

laisser tremper : it's not only in water, it's used with other liquid. With fuel, when you finish oil painting, to wash the brushes, you put in a glass with fuel. "On laisse tremper les pinceaux"

you go out, it's raining a lot, you don't have an umbrella or a raincoat, and you have to walk an hour under the rain : "vous êtes trempé"

and your clothes are full of water after this walk. "Vos vêtements sont trempés"

for every things, u could have said "everything" or "anything that's very dirty and dry and very hard to clean

u put them in a glass w fuel.  u have to say what u put in a glass.

ur clothes are soaking wet.  u hear "soaking wet" a lot.
