Maybe he would be a good engineer would be closer. This is something you could perfectly say to a 6-years old, but maybe it's not going to happen.

voir d'un bon oeil and voir d'un mauvais oeil are great expressions.

The former means that you trust something, in your opinon, it's going to last and to be successful.

The later is the opposite. You think it won't pan out. Or you don't even like the situation itself, because there's something you don't trust in it.

These are proper expressions, you can use them in any context. Good ones.

The online dictionary says the meaning of 'bon oeil' is favorable and 'mauvais oeil' is unfavorable.


Avoir une poussière dans l'œil.
To have dust in your eyes.
How about my English translation? I am not sure!
