again, this is from a novel about the french resistance:

a fisherman has agreed to take people to england;

"Il a truque son bateau."

the dictionary says "rigged" is "truque", but "rigged" in modern american english means something that is underhandedly done, as for example, when wall street traders rigged the market;

would it be correct to translate "truque" into "readied"?

Hello Isabelle,

"Truquer" means to fake, to booby-trap, or to illegally enhance something, like secretely installing a faster engine.
