Discuss and learn French.

Hello! I am a book editor with a limited background in French. An author I'm working with has a character that uses French phrases here and there.

This is how he has this phrase written:

"Mon Petite mystere," she said. "Je ne voulais pas te trouble!"

I know there should be no "e" at the end of "Petite", because she is speaking to a man. I am not sure how to order the last part. It may be correct as it stands, but I'm not sure.

Merci beaucoup!

:) Melanie

Hello Melanie,

Indeed, there should be no "e" at the end of "petite", as she's speaking to a man. And even if she were speaking to a lady, it would have been "ma petite mystérieuse".

Now for the last part: it just misses a "r", as the verb should be in its infinitive form.

=> "Mon petit mystère," she said. "Je ne voulais pas te troubler".

Thank you! I spoke with the author and he couldn't even remember what he had been trying to say. Merci!
