I don't think these mean quite the same thing, and I don't think they mean quite what you think they mean.

I think (1) would usually be interpreted as something like: "Why ask for/demand such a thing?", "Why ask for/demand something like that?"
I think (2) would usually be interpreted as something more like "Why ask for/demand something similar to that?"

For the meaning you want, probably the most usually way would be something like: Pourquoi poser une question pareille?
