Hi Everyone,

I have learned that the French present tense discribes an action that is happening or happens in general

I have some sentences in the present. Could someone help me to verify them?

I read the book = Je lis le livre
I am reading the book = Je lis le livre

You read the book = Tu/Vous lisez le livre
You are reading the book = Tu/Vous lisez le livre

He reads the book = il lit le livre
He is reading the book = il lit le livre

She reads the book = elle lit le livre
She is reading the book = elle lit le livre

We read the book = Nous lisons le livre
We are reading the book = Nous lisons le livre

They read the book = ils lient  le livre
They are reading the book = ils lient  le livre

Thanks,

They read the book = ils/elles  lisent  le livre
They are reading the book = ils/elles lisent  le livre

maybe you just mistyped?

Yes. Thanks Geogre!

Yes, it sometimes comes as a shock to new students that there's no present continuous in French. But it seems to work ok -- on the rare occasions when you need to emphasise continuing activity you can always say Je suis en train de lire le livre.

Yes, it is true. Thank so much for the sentence!

You read the book = tu lis le livre / Vous lisez le livre

They read the book = ils lisent le livre

You can use 'être en train de" for the present -ing too

I am reading the book = je suis en train de lire le livre
You are reading the book = tu es en train de lire le livre

etc...

Thank you so much!
