Help needed - Négligeé
Hello everyone. I just need the tiniest bit of info about 'négligeé', the item of clothing. Can anyone tell me what is the proper or official way of describing a noun such as 'négligeé' which has been formed in a sort of strange way from a verb? It's not a false friend, I'm sure. Thanks in advance, Matt.

Are you quite sure that there is a term for that process?
Is it enough that the same spelling can be used as either a noun or a verb -or is it also necessary that the meaning has shifted as well?
I think nominalisation is used to describe the use of a verb or an adjective to make a noun (kill/ a kill) but perhaps that is not what you are getting at?

If by "in a sort of strange way" you mean "by using the general processes of deriving one word from another in the language such as by adding prefixes and suffixes", then the term is derivation.
