weeks ago there was mention of learning vocabulary from lyrics.  I work in a beautiful french resto.  I just finished compiling french songs to play there.  Because dining is by candlelight and the building is very old and charming, i could only use appropriate music.  I tried to find the lyrics for only a few songs and was successful with all of them.  Presumably the rest can be found for anyone interested.

sous le ciel de paris

l’hymne a l’amour

la vie en rose

les feuilles morts

ne me quitte pas

chansons des vieux amants

la mer

verte campagne

que reste-t’il de nos amours (subsequently “I wish you love”)

et maintenant (subsequently “what now my love”)

la belle vie (subsequently “the good life”)

quand tu dors près de moi

les parapluies de cherbourg

clopin clopant

quand on n’a que l’amour

la valse des lilas

vivre pour vivre

des ronds dans l’eau

c’est si bon

c’est magnifique (there’s a french lyrics version)

from the film “un homme et une femme”:

plus fort que nous

aujourd’hui c’est toi

à l’ombre de nous

samba saravah (brazilian song with french lyrics)

caribbean henri salvador wrote the following:

cherche la rose

dans mon île

le petit indien

aime-moi

syracuse

tu sais je vais t’aimer

francoise hardy:

le premier bonheur du jour

soleil

there are quite a number of english songs that were then recorded with french lyrics.  sacha distel did “raindrops keep falling on my head.”  i’m taking the following for my resto:

dans cette chambre (french lyrics to gordon lightfoot’s “beautiful”)

mon cheri amour - eliane elias sings french lyrics to stevie wonder’s “ma cherie amour”)

The following aren’t appropriate for my resto but I like them:

jean jacques goldman:

là bas

comme toi

charles aznavour:

mourir d’aimer

non, je n’ai rien oublié

francoise hardy:

comment te dire adieu

sting:

la belle dame sans regrets
