Feel myself like a fool. At school I learnt that "e" is silent in some words like "pardonnE", "capriceE", "pEtit" and what do I hear at forvo's? cAUchEmar! all that "e"s are not silent anymore! Why?

Language evolves and pronunciation varies from region to region.

It would not surprise me to hear "cauchemar" with with a0 silent "e" or with an "e" either heavily or lightly pronounced.

Variety,as they say is the spice of life.
