A plus tard!

Is the expression A plus tard! a simple casual leave-taking expression like the English "See you later!" or does it mean that one intends to actually meet later that day?

In internet chat you'll find it abbreviated to a+.

The expression “A plus tard” tends to be replaced by a simple “A plus !” (“See you!”).

Most of time, you use “tard” if you intend to actually meet later that day.
For example: “On se voit plus tard”, “On en parle plus tard”…

But this is not a formal rule. I guess that it depends on personal (or regional) habits.
