He had a stroke.

A person known to me suffered a stroke. He didn't follow my advice to go to a gym. His blood pressure was above the normal.
I want to know the proper French sentence for a stroke.
The French word 'coup' sounds natural to me.
We say 'coup à pied' to kick someone and 'coup de foudre' if it took place at the first visit.

Coup de foudre
is thunder struck.
Quand il la vit la premiere fois, ce fut le coup de foudre. Depuis ce temps la, il l'aimera.

As far as I'm aware, apoplexie is an outdated term.
Formally, you could say: Il a eu une attaque cérébrale, though if you say Il a eu une attaque, I think it'll generally be understood to mean the same thing.
