In cajun french we say merliton? I think it means alligator pear or vegetable pear in english? Anyone know in current french?

No! I don't know the french word for avacado and I don't think there is a cajun word for it. I don't think they grow in South Louisiana or in Nova Scotia(Adacie) where we all came from.

Although I see how you might think it looks like an alligator pear.
The French word for avocado is "avocat".
