What does the words TIR FLEURIER GANTONAL NEVCHATELOIS

Hello
I came across a silver cup that has a date stamped on it '1902'. It is very old.

There is an imprint of a man holding a rifle with what looks like pioneer clothing.

The words on the cup ate ' Tir Fleurier Gantonal Nevchatelois'. I would like very much to know what the words mean?

The bottom of the cup is marked ' U.Jacot - Locle'. This is probably the maker of the cup.
Any help would be appreciated.

THANK YOU!!!

Hello,

I guess it's actually written "Tir Fleurier cantonal Neuchâtelois".
Tir = shooting (rifle shooting)
Fleurier = it's a small country village in Switzerland (http://www.fleurier.ch/), located in the canton Neuchâtel (Switzerland is divided up into 26 cantons).
cantonal Neuchâtelois = from the canton Neuchâtel.

As you said, "U. Jacot" is probably the maker of the cup. "Locle", or actually "Le Locle" is a swiss city (http://www.lelocle.ch/), also located in the canton Neuchâtel, not far from Fleurier.

It would clearly have been harder to understand those words if I wasn't Swiss ;-)
Thank you so much for your help.

Actually, after I sent off the discussion email, my husband did more research and realized that we were not reading the words in the proper order.

The inscription makes more sense to me now.

Again, thank you so much for your help!
Judy
