Is there a rule or guidance concerning when to use "de" or "a" with a verb? For example, decider de versus decider a. How do you ever know which one to use, or is it solely a matter of memorization? Thanks.

See the answer I gave to the question when do we add 'de' between verbs?. Essentially, there are some patterns, but aslso a bit of memorisation is inevitably involved.
Thanks! So many rules and exceptions...
