translation help

bonjour tout le monde! i am arranging some of erik satie's music and some of the written indications are too hard for me to translate - can anyone help me? the main one i don't understand is "du bout des yeux et retenu d'avance." another one is "dans le gosier" - does that phrase mean anything other than the literal translation? merci beaucoup!
