Tenses

The future tense sounds like the conditional tense; Je donnerais/Je donnerai when spoken or is there a subtle difference?

Yes there should be a subtle différence "donnerai" is like the sound "é" at the end whereas "donnerais" is "è"

just like the passé simple "je donnai" is the sound "é".

But you'll find more and more people who unfortunately  don't make the difference anymore.
