Hi Pam,

"se rendre compte" indeed means to realize, and you perfectly used it.

But the rest of the sentence is also tricky, so here's the complete, fixed sentence:

Au moment où il se rend compte que Joseph s'est vengé de son licenciement en trahissant les Juifs, Julien perd son innocence.


"à ce moment-là" would be redundant since you already said when the action happened. A way to emphasize the very moment it happened it to replace "quand" by "au moment où" as shown above.

Thank you Frank! My last composition contained so many errors, among them too many anglicisms. I am forcing myself to use more authentic verbs. A lot of my mistakes were verb tenses involving conditional and subjontif!!
But now I have mastered the accents on a Mac and I have a new Office for Mac, so those mistakes will hopefully diminish! My error analysis was brutal, more pages than the original composition!
For my next rédaction I am hoping to earn a better grade! Donc, je tas aujourd'hui!! Pam
