On his way down to Wall Street, my father, who was driving a Stanley Steamer, one of the earliest automobiles, noticed an acquaintance whom he didn't especially like.
French translation:
En son chemin en descend au Wall Street, mon pere, qui condusait une "Stanley Steamer", une d'automobile tout premier, remarquait une connaissance qui il ne l'aime (aime?) pas bien en particulier.

I would say:
En descendant vers Wall Street, mon père, qui conduisait une "Stanley Steamer", une des toutes premières automobiles, remarqua une connaissance qu'il n'appréciait pas particulièrement.
