Particularily if you describe what type of carreer, another idiomatic expression is déboucher sur: e.g. Ces études peuvent déboucher sur une carrière intéressante/de journaliste/de cadre.

Oh yeah, right, I forgot about this.

The noun is also quite common: un débouché / des débouchés (career openings). While talking about sales sales projections, this word can also mean outlet/opening/market.
