Le Figaro today: 'Souha Arafat, la veuve de Yasser Arafat, porte plainte contre X en France après
que de nouveaux éléments semblent redonner crédit à la thèse de l'empoisonnement
de l'ancien chef palestinien.'

Plse assist with 'porte plainte'.  Quite stuck there.

BTW:  How does one translate the simple English 'Please' (...help with ...) ?

It simply means "sues" or "brings a lawsuit against."

Ah!  'porter (la) plainte'!    Got it!

Is that then 'lodge/file a complaint'  or  'issue a summons'?

Thnks Stu.

Yes. I'm not sure whether that expression would still be used in extra-legal affairs, e.g. an employee complaining about unfair treatment, a mother protesting treatment of her son by a school, etc. Maybe a native speaker could tell us.

Thnks!
