How to say 'My friends at home wanted presents from me so...'

Good evening

If "wanted presents from" has not a figurative sense , I think we would say something like "A la maison mes amis ont voulu  que je leur fasse des cadeaux alors...

Hi, I suggest : Chez moi (or : étant invités chez moi), mes amis désiraient quelque chose de ma part, alors...

I would say, assuming the context being someone abroad talking about friends living in her/his country: "Mes amis, (restés) au pays, voulaient des cadeaux, alors ...."
