Une Histoire

I had to write a story about the life of Guy de Maupassant in Passe Simple. The facts don't neccessarily have to be correct (I got them from wikipedia), I'm just worried about my grammer. If someone could correct just a few errors it would be very helpful!


L’histoire de Guy de Maupassant commenca en Normadie. Guy la vécut pendant son enfance. Il recontit Gustave Flaubert et rendit lui visite souvent. Il fit des etudes à Yvetot. Dans 1871 il entrit le military et Allemagne envahit. Après le guerre il fut extérieur orienté et il aima jouer au canoe. Il créa beaucoup des nouvelles. Il obtenit un employ comme un éditeur à un journal. Dans 1880, il publia “Boule de Suif.” Il célébra son premier écriture célèbre. Peu l‘après, il écrivit “Deux Amis” Son éditeur lui félicitit maintes et maintes fois pour ses livres. Guy fut une personne qui n’eut pas aimait la societé. Avec son âge, son spirit se déteriora. Il devenit fou. Dans 1892, il fenta de se suicide. Dans 1893, il mourit.

Après le guerre il fut extérieur orienté s'extériorisa et il aima jouer au faire du canoe. Il créa (or: écrivit, or better: fût l'auteur de) beaucoup des nouvelles. Il obtenit un employ i comme un éditeur à d' un journal. Dans En 1880, il publia “Boule de Suif.” Il célébra son premier écriture écrit célèbre. Peu l‘après, il écrivit “Deux Amis” Son éditeur lui félicitit le félicita maintes et maintes fois pour ses livres. Guy fut une personne qui n’eut pas aimait n'aimait pas (passé simple here would sound weird) la societé. Avec son l' âge, son spirit esprit se déteriora. Il devenit devint fou. Dans En 1892, il fenta de se suicide tenta de se suicider. Dans En 1893, il mourit mourût.

I've spotted some mistakes ;)

Guy la vécut pendant son enfance. Guy y vécut pendant son enfance.

Il fût l'auteur de... Il fut l'auteur de...

Il obtenit un emploi. Il obtint un emploi.

Peu l‘après. Peu après.

En 1893, il mourût. En 1893, il mourut.

And some accents are missing:
commença, études, canoë, société, détériora.

Could you tell me why it should be "Peu après", instead of "Peu l‘après"?

"peu après" is a special expression. There's no grammatical explanation for it. But I think it comes from the contraction of "peu de temps après", that's why we say "peu après" and not "peu l'après".
C'était peu après 3 h ---> It was shortly after 3 o'clock.

Thanks! And one more question: When you are saying "the games" in french, it would be "les matchs" correct? Or is it "les matches"?

It can be both "matchs" and "matches".
Des match(e)s de tennis.

NB: Depending on the context, "games" can also be translated as "jeux".

You might hear "une partie" as well. It applies to games with only a few players, like tennis, golf, card games, video games, etc.
