I like to read French blogs about Paris but I can't find a definition for "choutette". I don't know that word. Used in "pour cette chouette". Anyone know what the word means? Thanks for your help!

Hello

choutette ??? or chouette

- "choutette" is not a french word but maybe in a special context it's a play on words. I need to see the whole text ...

- "chouette"  has two common meanings :

1) it's an owl ... but in Paris, I have never seen an owl (sadly) ...

2) it's frequently used to say that something is very nice, well, great ... it's more certainly that meaning in a blog about Paris.

Merci, that is perfect because they were talking about a new boutique, so must be very nice!

"Chouette", in its offhand use, means "nice, pleasant, terrific, fantastic, great", etc. It can be used as an adjective ("Ce chanteur, il est vraiment chouette !", but also, isolated, as an interjection ("- Demain, il n'y a pas classe... - Chouette !")

Though still in frequent use in these meanings, this word is a little bit old-fashioned... Young French people would now preferably say : "Cool !" (yes, French people...)

J.

A bit of Franglish, that.

Merci! That was a great explanation!!

Thank you very much for your kind reply!
