I studied French for seven years at school and university ( a number of years ago!) but since then for various reasons I´ve never had the opportunity to practice. I wonder if anyone can recommend a book which isn´t too much for beginners but has a general overview and some sort of exercises in grammar and verbs which could help me revise.

Many thanks in advance.

In the book reviews section of the web site, check out a book called Correct your French Blunders.

The book contains a number of chapters with "summaries" of basic French grammar, along with exercises and, importantly, examples ofincorrectphrasing that learners often use. Generally, the material is intermediate in level-- not the absolute basics, but forst most people there'll almost certainly be a mixture of revision and "moving you on to the next stage", which sounds like what you're looking for.

I do have a few niggles with the book as I mention in the review, but I would still recommend it to most people-- it's not too technical and concentrates on being "pragmatic", even if that means that at times it glosses over the truth a little bit for the sake of pedagogy.
P.S. You might also like to take a look at this site's own French grammar section-- it has quite a few on-line exercises, letting you practise forming some of the basic tenses etc.
Thank you so much for your replies, Neil. The site´s grammar section looks like a good starting point for me while I order the book. I´m learning Spanish too so here´s hoping I don´t get too confused between the two languages!
Hi,
The BBC have a few online courses, totally free and I think that they are fairly comprehensive.
Ma France sounds like the one you need. It has 24 interactive videos with switchable french and English sub-titles. www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/mafrance

Great, thank you, Ian, I´ll have a look at it.
