In this phrase about a sleeping man, 'Il a le dos colle au canape' (sorry accents missing), would this be an acceptable translation: 'He is flat on his back on the sofa'? Merci! Clare

Actually, I quite disagree. For me, i understand that the man is sleeping while being sit down on the sofa, like, say, a elder can do that sometimes.

If he were flat on his back, then we say in french il est allongé sur le canapé.
