Find grammar books to begin to learn the basics of the language.

Then read french litterature and watch french movies to improve your comprehension.

Talk with french people, on the internet for instance, to learn how to write and how to speak.

Oh, you really need to look at all the informations you can get on the internet. Don't make mistakes that I made I didn't have much informations back 20 years ago .
When you make mistakes in your learning methods, you may end up like me , I can read and write well, but I can't understand the spoken language well and I can speak but again not well. So I wasted a lot time trying to put things right after having spend so much time earlier on to learn it. See what I mean, it's doing the work twice.
By the way very few people learn languages very quickly and speak very fluently, so be prepared for the long journey ahead. But you will be happy when you found out the good methods of learning that really speed up your study. You will feel accomplished.
