Acer branches into pharmaceutical cargo industry thanks to dodgy translation

This one has been doing the rounds in the translation community, but I thought I'd mention it here for general amusement. An eagle-eyed twitter user spotted a slightly amusing example of (presumably) machine translation gone wrong. In an Acer manual on the use of a tablet docking station, "Place the tablet on the dock" unfortunately becomes "Placez le comprimé sur le quai". Whilst this might be the correct translation of "Place the tablet on the dock" when describing a headache tablet being placed on the dock of a shipping port, some of us suspect that this wasn't the meaning intended.

Hopefully, Acer at least attach more importance to the translation of their contracts and safety information...

See here for more details.
