Hi Melody, It means "color in the space in front of words you know". But "les places" is a bit weird in this context.

Hi Pam, Please note that it's "Il y a", not "Il y à" and this is what doesn't make it redundant.

Hi Pam, Indeed this is a faux ami. If you want to say "range" as "spectrum", you can say "choix" (masculine) or "gamme" (feminine).

Ah! So ranger means to place, put away, tidy up....I thought range meant the same thing, because I thought range of things....anglicism again! Thanks Frank! Pam

The line numbers are confusing, but this is single sentence (also, I guess "ils" should be "il", i.e. singular). And indeed, it means that these objects go together because he usually groups similar objects in the same pocket. "dans la même poche"…
