is one preferable to another -- au fil des ans, au fil des jours, au fil du temps, au fil de temps

Au fil de temps = this one is wrong.
The others are equal.
"Au fil des ans" is used if you are talking about years which passes ....
"Au fil des jours" if you are talking about days...
"Au fil du temps", if you don't clarify and talk about time which passes
