<p>no difference. I think it's historical. the root of "carreau" seems to imply that it's relative to a square.</p>
<p>The two are used. "vitres" is more used in Paris where i leave but we know "carreau", I think it's this kind of word which the use is different according to the region. I think somewhere people use more "carreau".</p>
